YOUR BROWSER DETAILS
Does your browser handle 128bit SSL security?
As a valued customer we have your interests at heart. Our payment system uses the latest security (128bit SSL v3.0) to encrypt your credit/debit card details. Mentioning no names, we have noticed not all our competitors do. Unfortunately not all browsers can support this high level, which is set to become industry standard, and these will use the less secure 40bit SSL instead.
WHAT IS SSL?
SSL = Secured Socket Layer. This is the system that scrambles and protects your personal information entered within a secure page. The higher the number of bits the more difficult it is for anyone to decipher the information whilst it travels over the internet. 128bit SSL v3.0 is the safest way to give your card number to any retailer, on or off-line.
SUPPORTING BROWSERS
Providing you have (MSIE) Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and above / Netscape Navigator 6.2 and above you will have no problems. Providing that is you haven't changed your browser settings as there is also 128bit SSL version 2.0 which is also not acceptable by banks. If you are unsure you can click on the default settings button in your internet options under tools on the menu bar to reset them.
HOW TO TEST YOUR BROWSER SECURITY
Easiest way: Hover over the yellow padlock at the bottom of your browser, now, to view the level of encryption it is handling. Is it SSL Secured 128bit or SSL Secured 40bit? Nothings easy, there are two versions of 128bit, version 2.0 and version 3.0. It will not show this here. The default setting for 128bit is version 3.0 compliant. To double check this you will have to go into your browser: tools then internet options, then choose security and look to see if the SSL 3.0 is checked. If not, check it and be more secure.
HOW TO UPGRADE YOUR SECURITY
1) Updating browser SSL strength
You should do this as soon as possible because every store on the internet will soon require this. As internet banking does now.
Microsoft Internet Explorer users: CLICK HERE to visit their website to download an upgrade. It only takes one minute. Just click on the appropriate link on the right side of the screen under your browser version (stated above) and run from its location. You will need to reboot your computer for it to take effect.
2) Update your browser / Operating system
The more time consuming option. The latest version of internet explorer is available for free on many CD's attached to computer magazines and on ISP CD's. The latest version of Windows will also include a supported browser.
